Venice Travel 1: Historic Sites, and Immersing in Italian Culture

Hello! Today, we will introduce a detailed itinerary for the first day of your trip to Venice. Comprised of numerous islands, Italy’s unique city of Venice is famous for its canals, historical treasures, delicate crafts, and traditional Italian cuisine. On the first day of the trip, we will visit St. Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, and a Murano glass workshop while enjoying unique Italian snacks.

Travel Tips: Adaptation and Preparation

San Marco square – Venezia

Morning: Start with Orientation at St. Mark’s Square

Begin your first morning in Venice at a café with a traditional Italian breakfast of cornetto and espresso. Café Florian is a great place to start your day on St. Mark’s Square.

After breakfast, explore the heart of Venice, St. Mark’s Square. Located in the square is St. Mark’s Basilica, where you can admire the historical and architectural beauty of this magnificent cathedral.

  • Tip: The basilica can be visited from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, and admission is free.

Lunchtime: Italian Lunch and Enjoying Music on St. Mark’s Square

For lunch, try visiting a nearby restaurant like Ristorante Do Forni. Order the house menu ‘Primo Piatto’ and enjoy Alaskan raw fish, pasta with pink sauce, and more. After your meal, treat yourself to tiramisu, a uniquely Italian dessert featuring layers of yum-yum clouds and fresh fruit.

  • Tip: During lunchtime, you can enjoy a military band performance on St. Mark’s Square, creating a delightful atmosphere.

Afternoon: Exploring Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs

After lunch, visit the Doge’s Palace to experience the wonders of Venetian Gothic architecture. Climbing the medieval council chambers and the Giustinian Gold Room will bring Venetian history to life.

-Tip: Purchase tickets online for the Doge’s Palace to minimize wait times.

After exploring the interior of the Doge’s Palace, cross the famous Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri). The Bridge of Sighs connects the palace with the prison across the palace’s gasiform boundary. The bridge was named because the prisoners who crossed it sighed as they took their last view of the world.

Evening: Rialto Bridge and Venetian Culinary Night Market

In the evening, visit Venice’s iconic spot, the Rialto Bridge. Near the bridge, you’ll find a night market selling traditional Venetian food and wine, making it an excellent spot for your dinner.

While the Rialto area may seem bustling at first, it offers a genuinely warm experience as you enjoy real Italian street food in the narrow streets and night market. Enjoy diverse Cicchetti dishes, such as fried squid leg, fried octopus leg, and fish marinated in soy sauce.

Night: Stroll Through Calle Dei Boteri and Explore Bacaro Italian Cuisine

As night falls on Venice, visit small traditional Italian restaurants operating within the warehouse-style spaces of Calle Dei Boteri. Here, you can experience the art of cooking within a cozy atmosphere and immerse yourself in local Italian cuisine.

Finish the day by breathing in the fresh air and reflecting on your first day’s adventures in Venice while enjoying the beautiful canals, islands, and the wingless lion.

We hope you enjoy your first day in Venice, and we will continue to update the blog with stories of your next journey. Arrivederci!
