A Weekend in Washington D.C.: Discovering History and Culture of the US Capital

As the weekend approached, we decided to embark on a long-awaited trip to Washington D.C. This was the first time in the United States we devoted an entire day solely to sightseeing. Our journey to Washington D.C. covered various tourist destinations, and we gained an appreciation for history and some extraordinary experiences.

Historical Tourist Attractions in Washington D.C.

1. Korean War Veterans Memorial

Upon arriving at the Korean War Veterans Memorial, we were deeply moved by the sight of the 19 statues of American soldiers. The expressions and postures of the life-like statues vividly conveyed the pain of war and the bravery of the U.S. military. The black granite wall with etched images of fallen soldiers, along with their reflections, totaled 38 soldiers, symbolizing the 38th parallel and the 38-month duration of the war.

2. Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial was teeming with bikers who had gathered for an event on Memorial Day weekend. This congregation of riders, who had come together to pay homage to the esteemed President Lincoln, made for an emotional and impactful experience. At this point, we captured glimpses of the Washington Monument, an essential memory for all who visit Washington D.C.

3. United States Capitol

At the United States Capitol, only the dome was visible due to ongoing external construction. Nevertheless, beautiful pictures were taken at a nearby park. We were able to appreciate the beauty of the city through the image.

4. White House

While only reserved American citizens can enter the White House, we still enjoyed the splendid view of the White House from a nearby park.

Unique Experiences

1. Art Galleries and Natural History Museum

At the art galleries and natural history museum, various exhibits and portraits of American Presidents were on display. This offered us a deeper understanding of American history and culture.

2. Street-side Ice Cream

Lastly, enjoying the street-side ice cream stands was a unique experience despite different prices. It allowed us to experience a distinct American ambiance.
