Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez have moved to officially end their marriage.
The pop star, 30, filed for divorce from the real estate agent, 28, on Monday, with Gomez filing a response immediately following, PEOPLE confirms.
News of the couple’s separation broke in July, but the divorce filing is happening two months later as Grande and Gomez were “taking their time together to slowly work through the details of the agreement privately,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They’ve been really caring and respectful of one another through every step of this process.”
Calling the uncoupling “kind and patient,” the source tells PEOPLE both Grande and Gomez have “moved on.”
The date of separation is listed as Feb. 20, 2023. TMZ was first to report news of the filing.
Amid news of Grande and Gomez’s split, a source told PEOPLE that the decision was amicable. The insider explained that the marriage “didn’t work” once the Grammy winner went to film Wicked in London and it became long distance, but added, “Ari has nothing but kind words to say about Dalton. During their marriage, he was her No. 1 fan.”
The now exes began dating in January 2020 and made their relationship official when they appeared together in the music video for Grande’s song with Justin Bieber, “Stuck with U” in May of that year. After they announced their engagement in December 2020, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on May 15, 2021.
While the two kept their relationship relatively private, Grande celebrated their second wedding anniversary in May by sharing a snap from their wedding day on her Instagram Story along with the message “I love him so.”
Following the news of their split, sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Grande is currently dating her Wicked costar and Broadway alum Ethan Slater. Slater married his high school classmate Lilly Jay in November 2018, with whom he welcomed a child in January. Slater filed for divorce from Jay in July.
The new couple’s romantic relationship began after Grande’s separation from Gomez and Slater’s separation from Jay. “The truth is, Ariana and Ethan didn’t begin seeing each other until after both parties were separated, respectfully,” a close family friend previously told PEOPLE.
